Advent Children

Square Enix's famous animation called final fantasy VII Advent Children amazed people when it first came out. keeping in mind it is japanese which normally don't do normal body ratio's they got the body looking very realistic for the ratio which made it easier to get reference to movement and weight as the characters move which ranged from walking to fighting and jumping. Due to the budget they could hire very skilled animators for the project which proves large budget more time and skill behind a piece.

Bawk Bawk!

Robot chicken is stop motion animation but even though it is stop motion the group still follows the principles and unlike maya the shadows are more realistic but unlike maya it take longer to make a sequence. stop motion isn't my favourite animation but i do enjoy the end product. the principles seem harder to follow in this style which is a bit strange since it is weighted already, when looking at this style i think i will stick to drawings and online 3D.

...Not that it is proven

Because of the last star wars post i decided to look into the video game Lego Star Wars due to the use of lego men moving in a way that would be able to be used in animations and a video game. the key person i studied was the protocol droids such a C3P0 since he had a limited speed and range of movement that was perfect for my design for my character. when i look at C3PO compared to mine a see that i have a way to go until i can say i'm skilled at maya but i just started to learn it.

In a Galaxy far far far.....snore....

Now i love star wars and a couple of years ago george lucas created Star Wars The Clone Wars which used 3D and told the clone wars from a different angle to the original clone wars series. The Clone Wars used 3D animation which is more similar to the one we use compared to the one that was used in the 90's and due to this the best research i had for doing the lights and principles of animation. When this project i started watching the series again and took ideas for how to show i understood the principles of animation which makes this the best study for me to look at.
Deciding on the height on my lego man was decided when i looked at yoda standing next to a wookie best way of showing little and large.

It's time for...

...Animaniacs a show that still is shown today which harnessed the principles of animation in a joking fashion with using the stretch for wakko's mouth and yakko's pants. The use of multiple sized characters showed a range of weigh behind movements and even made it affect surroundings which delivered enjoyment to the viewers. when creating my this was a large influence on my piece and as all the animations i have looked at all have a cartoon look to them since i am doing a lego man it seemed the best idea to look into kiddy cartoons.

Reboot Reboot

Reboot was another animation from the 90's which like shadow raiders was a 3D animation that gained a fan base due to it being 3D and the design of the characters. Like shadow raiders there is no point comparing it to the animations of today but it works as a study into today's animations history since it used the same principles as today but just not as cleanly done.

due to the two robots that are in the photo a lot of squash and stretch was used to make then appear to talk which was similar to what i would of done if my lego man was going to talk but due to the sequence being self explanatory i didn't need any speech.

The 3D is coming the 3D is coming...

Since i was raised in the 90's one of the shows i grew with was Shadow Raiders since it was out in 1998 it obviously won't be as good or as easy to do as it is now but though the story was lacking the designs were amazing especially for the main characters since they had very detailed texture packs.
This was one of the first animations i remember especially during the 3rd period of the 90's this was a landmark animation but no one remembers it which is a shame since i think it makes us think of how animation will change when we finish this course.

Enter the Matrix If you dare

The Animatrix is a animation project that was mind blowing for me due to the use of multiple different art styles and forms of animation used in one project. The series contained the animations of:
The second renaissance part 1 & 2
Beyond
Last Flight of the Osiris
World Record
Kid's Story
Matriculated
Detective story

My favourite was the last flight of the Osiris since it was the only one which dealt with 3D animation and used it well when the scene would of been easier being drawn such as the fight scenes.

The movement was realistic including how they used the principles of animation and lighting to create amazing scenes and sequences. This is one piece i hope to take as inspiration for later projects to push what i can do.

How It Should Of Ended

How it should of ended (HISHE) are a group that has recently become popular though youtube and due to their popularity that have created a website and are releasing animations bi monthly. the group itself do not create their own characters but use existing universes such as the batman series or bioshock universe that have a pre set story but try to create a different outcome from the original story. The animation itself is 2D but has it own recognisable charm to it and because you always have the same voice actors it gives a friendly and comfortable feeling since you get a re pore with them. As i said due to having an existing universe to work from they can be limited but they don't let that stop them.

Second movie trouble

While Tom was editing the second movie theme was decided so we went filming at Ilkley moore and while it had a nice area and good places to shoot the weather was bad ,while having a little trouble arriving at the desired position we tried a shot and while the camera was on a tripod the wind caught the tripod and made it impossible but the deciding factor was the health and safety of our actor since she almost fell on the rocks at multiple occasions. we got a few good shots but in the end the shot had to be at another time.

When we tried filming again i fell ill so Tom had to do the rest of the filming.

Our Shots

This will be a short post due to the storyboard being how we will be filming it but we will be doing a range of all shots i have mentioned except for EWS and VWS also we avoided using bird eye angle due to the difficulty and the irrelevance of the shot.

Shot List part 2

The second part of the list is:

Cut In is an ECU but instead of concentrating on the face it focus on another part on the subjects body such as hands, arms and feet which still shows the same feel as a ECU.

The Cutaway (CA) is a shot that is another view with no subject in it such as looking at a fight scene that the main subject isn't in. An example of this shot is terminator 2 when she is looking at the park.

Two-Shot is a shot that is framed like a mid shot with two subjects next to each other that can be used to show the main protagonists reacting to something off shot such as supernatural Dean & Sam looking at a demon.

Over the Shoulder Shot (OSS) is a shot when you are looking at the subject over another person's shoulder which is mostly used when there is a long conversation between two people. This shot is normally limited to two people due to framing the shot.

The Point Of View shot (POV) is the camera filming a scene the way of the subjects eye line that can be used to show the subject viewing something in the distance or the character looking at their own body.

Angles are very important when it comes to filming since angles show different things to the audience such as:

Eye Line is a Angle that is most commonly used, the shot is how our eyes perceive the world so it is a very neutral shot due to it not having an immediate implication.

High Angle is when the camera is angled down to a subject below. The shot itself gives off the feeling of being powerless, diminished or insignificant.

Low Angle has the opposite affect making the subject seem powerful and dominant such as the terminator.

Birds Eye View is shot from directly above the subject by crane or jest by being at a higher point. The shot itself is a very unnatural shot and is used more in real television such as documentaries and sports.
