In this section i am going to look at different shots and show that i understand them i will use images done by this site http://www.mediacollege.com/video/shots/.
First is the Extreme Wide Shot (EWS) this shot is an establishing shot which can have the subject in it but most of the time this shot is used to show you where you are such as if we were in the mountains you would use this shot to show the range of the mountains mostly used in war and action films.
Very Wide Shot (VWS) is very similar to the EWS but has less range and the subject would be more visible this has more applications if you decided to shoot a building or a row of building or in fantasy films and room such as the tomb of balin lord of moria (lord of the rings) since it gives a closer feel to the audience rather than feeling distant to the subject.
Wide Shot (WS) is a Shot that has the subject in view or is very close to having the whole subject in view this shot gives the subject a presence in the shot while still keeping the subjects environment visible. though it is a popular shot when looking into it the shot seems more like a transition into the closer shots such as men in black when they walk down the corridor.
The Mid Shot (MS) is a very well used shot since it shows alot of detail but still gives the feel of a (WS) being that there is a whole person there. I like this shot since it always appears just before the build up to an action sequence such as constantine before she gets pulled though the lift.
If you want a little more detail the Medium Close Up (MCU) is the next best shot since it has a lot more detail than (MS) but still gives you the view of the shoulders and arms which in action or romance scenes can be important on how you deliver the subject.
Close Up (CU) is a shot that is always used no matter the genre or time period it was made since this shot feels more like if you were naturally looking at someone when you speak to them, the shot defines the features and delivers the subject very well if used right.
The Extreme Close Up is a shot that shows something in great detail which always has a meaning for it such as a detective with a cigarette or a nervous person playing with their hands. this shot normally switches between two different subjects after each other like forehead sweat to nervous shuffling.

Supernatural
One of the shows i really enjoy is called supernatural but the reason i really enjoy it is because of how the story is well presented by the art direction and the shots themselves with the use of lighting. Unlike most horror genre's what they do here is use the form of it's what you didn't see that affects you that delivers a stronger message
Here is the link to a strange supernatural segment

i looked into the filming of supernatural and found a camera man named Bradley S. Creasser who has done work on such things like timecop and smallville and has done alot of other jobs beside cameraman such as cinematographer and lighting specialist

Martin Weisz
The mind behind this video Martin Weisz was to create a video for Korn's Somebody Someone
which though most of the shots are edited in post production the use of close ups really work well with the fly flying around.
Martin also was the director for the hills have eyes II which was reviewed as not a very good film. The main reason I chose him was because i liked the use of different speeds in shots and how he used a POV shot that most wouldn't try which was in the perspective of the fly.

Nathan Karma Cox
Nathan 'Karma' Cox is a director that got my attention after watching this video which gave me the idea of her erratic behaviour.
This is the link to the video called Stupify by Disturbed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVcY--XzeIc&ob=av2n
The woman in the video shows inhuman erratic movements which help with the look of being controlled as a puppet from 2:50 onwards here are some screen shots.
These are all very good scenes to show the character not having control over what they are doing which was the feel that i would like to show to the audience
some of the shots i thought were really well done with how they did the tracking close up shots which could be used in our film.
Nathan Cox has done multiple pieces mostly music videos such as
Paper cut, In The End,-Linkin Park
Down with the sickness- Disturbed
All have a style that is Nathan Cox plus very good shots that range from close to long shot and all are a testament to the songs.

poem 1
this is the first poem we got:
the Writer is Zenam Bi
Define me?
Definitions, stereotypes,
expectations,
I fall into none of them.
How can my definition be made
when my full stop has not been reached?
Certainty is only in the things
I believe: Religion, Humanity, and Rebellion
Caus this f***** world’s gone
crazy.
Everybody pulling in different
directions.
This is who you are! This is who
you should be!
Well f*** that, I am no-one’s
puppet. I’m going to choose my own destiny,
My morals and values intact,
because a hypocrite I could never be.
From each experience, each
situation defined for me, I learned:
Overcoming weaknesses, finding
different strengths, forging new facets of me.
But from each experience, each
situation defined for me
I refuse to define me, who is
myself.
How can I explain me when I’ve
not yet learned all I can be,
Or lived life’s opportunities to
test every part of me?
Emotionally, spiritually,
physically, I have a lot to learn of what I can and can’t achieve.
Only one thing’s certain at this
point in time: I’m sticking to my beliefs;
Culture or society, neither will sway me.
I am many different things most
of which I have yet to realize and reach.
The first quotes that jumped out were "define me" and "puppet" which was a angle we worked on and gave ideas to Lija to start storyboarding.
Our filming Group
In our group there consists of:
Siobhan Parkhouse- Producer
Lija Jursins-Storyboard
Tom Bone- Post production
Rhys Bryant (ME)- Camera man
As you can see above i am the camera man but i will also be involved in the ideas since it will be a group discussion.
I will be doing research into practitioners of film mainly to do with camera work and hopefully the group will be able to work well together to create the two films we will choose.

Mashed Potato video evaluation
The first section of this project is to create your own instructional video with mine it showed how to mash a potato. with the piece if it was revisited a higher range of shots could of been researched to be used but due to the piece only a few could be used. The information in the video was good but the video maybe to fast for some to grasp what was happening so if the piece was redone that may need to be revised, aside from that this piece was enjoyable but came with it's own challenges since another piece was to be made after this i found that this brief helped prepare us for the group work that we had to do in the second part of the brief.
Mashed potato storyboard
This is the basic sequence and shots that i will be doing and using all of it will be done with a handy cam and a tripod while cooking over parts of the meal so timing will have to be focused on.
What is a Instructional video?
An instructional video is as the title says is a video designed with the sole idea of instructing someone, this can be on any topic ranging from how to make cookies to how to pay your taxes. The internet has become a valuable asset when it came to instructional videos since the easy access to the internet and youtube makes it easy to view and upload videos.
The most viewed instructional videos could be video game guides such as how to defeat a boss or collect all the collectables, most people don't see game guides as instructional video but if you take what a instructional video is it does fit the criteria.
The one i will be doing thought is a instructional video on making mashed potato and since this is a real scenario it will need to have more angles but since it is just me filming and acting in it i will be limited to what i can do.

Instructional video research
I looked into existing instructional videos which ranged from just making a cup of tea to surviving a zombie horde.
I enjoyed this piece just for the range of actors that are present and just the art direction is well done.
this one though basic has a nice feel to it but is a bit too long for how to make a cup of tea since the first minute seems a waste of time. Time will be something that is important for when i create the video since i don't want an irrelevant scene that will take too long.

Ideas for Instructional video
the first part of the brief is a personal instructional video and i decided to create a mind map for some ideas.

Cyriak Animator study/ Lecture
On Thursday the 26th january the famous animator cyriak did a lecture at leeds college of art,
During the lecture some of his past works were shown and he also showed his more recent works being corporate or being personal projects which he explained the thought or lack of process in designing these scenarios that are created. The way he creates the pieces are mainly his own ideas, aftereffects and photoshop which seems impossible unless you sit and study his video and realise how much work must he put into it.
The first of his video's i had seen before the lecture was known as Baaa
The one section which amazed and blew my mind is when the parts of the lamb are used as a conveyer belt to create more smaller lamb, the whole video surprised me and i didn't catch it all at the beginning but after awhile you see that everything is made with a piece of the lamb from it's ears being used as a mouth to the head used as a rotor blade.
The piece that seemed more relevant over the rest was called MEOW
the reason was due to this piece having more of a story behind it and i prefer pieces with a thought out story which always causes more work compared to just winging it.
As a practitioner he is definitely got his own style and pattern of work but i do really enjoy his pieces and i have subscribed to him and hope to see more strange and inspirational pieces in the future.

Sherlock Holmes Game of Shadows
I went to see Sherlock Holmes during the christmas period and really enjoyed the narrative of it. The Movie itself is very enjoyable but the bits that interested me the most was some of the shots used during the forest since they used slow motion to give a desperate feel as the protagonist is running for their life
while the weariness of the fight is shown with the use of the camera moving as they are fighting and running and the unique angles that quite a few shots are done.
