Since this is my first proper post i wanted it to do an artist study of one of my late favourite artists Frank Frazetta. He was the one man who defined the golden age of fantasy art and brought a new found respect for the genre from fans of the genre and people who weren't fans, May 10th 2010 was the day this skilled artist left this world and left a large impact on the artists of the genre since his art had an impact on the imagination of so many leading illustrators to the great artists we have today. At 16 He started working with comic books. In 1964 one of his magazine ads drew the attention from the United Artists studios and he created the movie poster for What's New Pussycat, after the movie poster he ending up doing covers for paperbacks and his most famous collection is the
CONAN THE ADVENTURER books which were created by Robert E. Howard and L. Sprague de Camp (Lancer 1966) with the drawings alone people were buying the book which for me sounds crazy if i was told this but after looking at his artwork i understand why is was being bought just for the art. After one job the doors for him opened his work was in high demand all he needed was one action book that needed a cover. Now so far what i have written you can see he was commissioned to create things for other people with less creative control. Ralph Bakshi Frank's new friend gave him an opportunity which give him more creative control meaning most of the story and most characters are his creations the movie was released in 1983. I love Fire and Ice it was a brilliant movie such a basic story of a magic overlord stealing a princess with the main character being dragged in and not be skilled but meeting a mentor and warrior which does all the fighting.

So why is this in any form relevant to me well lets see i love fantasy plus he's artwork is mind-blowing even though it has been years since it was first created it still is more inspirational than some of the work i see now i mean look at the characters.
This is death dealer i have loved this picture and the character for years i see this character in so many stories and i see this as inspiration for one or more of my concepts. This is a warrior archetype which i love if i can use the shades and colour that he uses my characters will feel amazing and look amazing. I hope my characters can look half as good as this genius' work.
