When in Rome...

This was my first one point perspective of what my environment will look like, there was no colour used since it was just an appearance thing rather than a full colour piece this piece has no measurements.
These are the elevations of the environment these were measured up to  be a scale of 1cm - 1 metre this showed the layout also from a different perspectives rather than the one look from the first image.
This is the 3 point perspective which i accidentally did while trying to do a two point perspective but i like how this turned even if it was by accident.
The Floor Plan really helped me to keep the environment in perspective when creating the other drawings since without this all the pieces would of ended up looking a lot weirder.

FlipBook Is ALIVE

This is my animation after using the flip book which used 16 frames to create which unfortunately due to it's design the character face changed while drawing, Since this is my first animation i was quite happy when it was completed.

Unfortunately i can't upload it due to a error warning.

And Again And Again And Again the storyboard chronicles

Now since i need to make an animation i will be storyboarding my sequence, i have done storyboards before but not for my own piece of work.

This was my first storyboard but i found that it was too complex for my first animation so what i did was take elements of the idea and developed it to create these keyframes below which are much easier to animate and understand.

A man is only as good as his spoon

This was just a bit of development work i decided to do due to him being a barbarian he needs a weapon. The clubs were designed after watching the video that was in the real life barbarians post while the axes were done by looking into fantasy artists i decided on the bottom one and the middle right one since they had a large fantasy look that i wanted to go for, unfortunately due to this being my first animation i did not use the axe design and went for a basic axe so the flip book was easier.

Final Character

This is the turnabout of my character known as Blood fang with only one in colour to show what he looks like in colour.

Dressed to kill

Because of what my character is i will have to do a form of costume that suits with his hunting nature and this is his wardrobe

The bottom coloured one is the decided costume which is the reason for this piece being coloured. All this pieces were based on his environment story and his skills which gave a influence on his design and his overall look.

I got no body for my own

This was a fail attempt at making a body, i have never been good with anatomy when drawing which include composition as this picture show but i went on pose maniacs to look at the muscle bound freaks (how they write it) but they seemed too freaky so i went for a normal character look with subtle muscles which turned out like this.
His legs may seem to long but i will be putting clothes on the character so it will not look out of proportion when he is finished.

Man Of Many Faces

Now that i have finished the character sheet i can move on to design the characters face since i want him to have an identifiable face for the animation.

These were some original artwork i designed for his face i didn't think i would use any of them but i thought i would try a face which is a combination of the top left image face and bottom left's hair style.

This was the result
This was just a rough sketch with the experiment of his body composition this was the character i choose since he had the rough look i wanted but also a soft side in his eyes. The look was exactly what i wanted but lets see what he looks like on his body.

Paul Cartwright

Paul Cartwright is quite a widely used name so if you want to see his work more you will have to look up Zero 9 Studio. Another artist I saw in an imagineFx Book, some of the work he has done are video games, illustrations and magazine covers. In the book he gives a guide to doing one of the pieces below which is very informative.

These are the two images i first saw of his in the magazine and the guide showed how he created his gorilla rider original concept and developed it, the one on the right was just used to show how he presents he's pieces after creating them.

Since he does a lot of professional work he has worked as an illustrator for companies and designed a logo such as this chimera logo which looks very impressive especially if you see it on a fantasy book due to the use of colour and the graphic element of the image.

These are some of his video environment concept art for some of the video games he has done and even though there is not much colour added you feel real depth
due to the amount of shading that is added to the pieces.

This is a piece I really like since the design isn't over the top
but it also has a very elaborate look to it which I
like due to the contrast with the earthy run down background
to the Sci-Fi robot.

Here are some character designs for the same video game i believe. What i love about his designs is how real they look even with a slight cartoonie appearance hell even the details go down to the belt buckle and buttons, the characters look like they have personality and attitude even while in a T pose which i think is probably very hard to do.

His work is a major inspiration and a good reference to what i will need to do even though i will not be able to do it as well. As i look at his work i get ideas of how much detail i should put in but and i do mean but there is a major difference in experience so i will need to strive to maybe half as good as this guy is.

Raymond Swanland

Raymond Swanland one of my favourite artists but i didn't want to put him up unless i found his work relevant which it was so now i am writing about him, I found out about him while reading an imagineFx book on fantasy art which showed a tutorial on how to create his sci-fi mixed with traditional fantasy look.

Now this is the picture that captivated me when i first saw it the lighting, shading, colours and the design itself made me look more into this artists work. This Piece has such a regal presence when you first see it but after a while you notice more and more detail in all parts of the piece, in the future i hope to create pieces like this even if it is just as a print.

Now these two pieces are from two games of the Oddworld series which was a favourite series as a child even just watching the games i enjoyed the designs, Raymond has worked on munch's odyssey and Stranger's Wrath and while these pieces show different things they both show great detail and thought behind them.

Another Artist Who Has Worked On
Magic The Gathering
The thought he puts behind his work really inspires me as well as how he delivers what he has designed to the audience who is viewing it, If i can create anything like this in the next three years i will be really amazed at myself. His character and environment design are what he brings to my table which is relevant to my work entirely since it is character and environment design.

Stjepan Sejic

Stjepan Sejic a freelance artist which his area of expertise is comics books and illustrations.
I really enjoy looking at his work since it seems every character has a story behind them and a personality which is shown in the clothing, expressions and poses that the character is presented as.
I really like looking at his marvel character remake of characters like Carnage from Spiderman and Lara Croft from the original game.

As all my other artist studies they all are fantasy artists but the only reason i am only using fantasy artists is because of the relevance to my character except from Frank, Dan Scott and David Levy, All the artists do work with environment and character design even if the environment is just a background to their character and that is no different to this artist. The reason this guy is one of the ones i picked is due to the look of the characters more than anything else with the detail in expressions.

Chris Evenhuis

This is an artist i thought about when i decided to write about my character fighting an empire and one of the works he has done is Overlord II. Overlord II is about an overlord (duh) who is fighting about an empire which are the romans but are never mentioned as such.

I really like his design for the empire characters since he did the historical research for the characters but added his own twist on the pieces. The reason i researched this comic artist, concept artist and illustrator is for his character designs, colours and how he does his background research. but my main reason is not for my character but is for me to see how i should depict the story for my character and how it will shape him

James Dinosaur Gurney

James Gurney a really interesting author due to him not only being the person who created the award winning books known as Dinotopia but also was the illustrator for the books, since all the work was his doing from the story and artwork to the actual design of the whole world he is an amazing person.

Now his art style is quite interesting since he depicts a harmony between humanity and nature, with over 100 pieces of artwork which are all painted in oils now that is a lot of work and effort which amazes me since if he made a large mistake he would have to start again and if he didn't back up his design he would have to draw it all out again.

From an interview he has done in the past he explains that when he worked for National Geographic he went around to multiple dig sites and drew visualisations of the what the ruins might look like, which evloved in 1988 to Waterfall City which was supposed to be a combination of Venice and Niagara Falls.
A lot of his work is created by originally making models, maquettes, humans models in costume and poses and do charcoal studies.

Some of his work have me thinking of romanticism but he also has a few scientific ideas in a more fantasy type world in my opinion. One of the most interesting pieces of information for me was he tried to draw an image of some prehistoric fire fighters which he liked to he showed his friend how was a professional fire engine designer and the first thing he said was it wouldn't work, but instead of becoming defensive he sat there with him and thought of an idea of how it would work.

I always enjoy this guy's work since they are designed as a portrait compared to other artists as well as the unique thought behind it. How i see this relevant is not because of the style but how he does he's character and scene development and how he delivers a fantasy genre so easy with the use of illustrations   now maybe the only piece of relevance he has is his environment design but he still inspires me when it comes to character and set design so that is why he is one of my artists.

Character sheet

Now this is my barbarian's character sheet which means after doing research i found that i had more freedom and enjoyment doing the barbarian idea rather than the Librarian so i went for designing and developing him.

Now i have this character sheet i can create the basic appearance for him.
